On Monday, July 11th, Goose suffered a fracture to his front-right humerus bone where it connects to the elbow joint. Because of the placement of the fracture, the stage of his growth-plate development, future functionality, and a laundry list of other factors, I have made the decision to move forward and schedule his amputation. Goose is just shy of 5 months and weighs 5 pounds. It’s been an incredibly challenging week as I have spent countless hours on the phone with our vet and surgeons contemplating what the best route is moving forward.

  2. Oh you sweet boy! I’m sorry about your accident. How scary!

    Did any of the vets talk to you about the possibility of a prosthetic? Sometimes if the fracture allows a longer section of limb to remain, a dog can be a good candidate for one. It can help Goose enjoy better mobility, especially as he ages. But it has to be considered before surgery for the greatest chance of success.
